How to Reach the Right Office

This is a privately run reference site, not a government office. We do not hold anyone in custody, and we cannot confirm whether a person is locked up, set someone free, post bond, or pull an official booking file. Those actions belong to the agencies that keep the original records. If you need any of them, reach out to the correct government office directly using the contacts below.

Searching for an Inmate or a Record

Connecticut works differently from most states. There is no New Haven County sheriff and no county jail. Since 1968, one statewide agency, the Connecticut Department of Correction, has run what used to be separate county jails and state prisons. So the offices that can answer custody and record questions are state agencies and the local correctional center, not a county booking desk. The two cards below give you the offices most people need first.
